“At the sight of the sacred posters, taxi drivers would brake sharply, disentangle their bewildered passengers, and drag them off for a drink, abandoning their vehicles wherever they happened to stop.” Although such a claim, taken from this book, is absolutely impossible — no one has ever observed such camaraderie among taxi drivers toward their passengers — for once fiction outdoes reality, and this exuberant book is presented as a novel that is “warm, earthy, playful, cheeky and heady.” To the “killjoys” and other gloomy souls left unmoved by it, the author wrote again in the columns of Le Figaro on 15 November 1975: “(…) for pity’s sake, sad people, let the wine of friends still flow in its cherry-colored robe at the bottom of the glass.” The book’s launch was certainly enticing: it was held in Legrand’s cellars at Issy-les-Moulineaux — a full-scale “Captain Beaujol’party.” Cheers!

Rare and sought after on deluxe paper.
