Rejected by the publisher Bourdilliat, Monselet turned instead to Poulet-Malassis, who had already published his Les Oubliés et les Dédaignés, for this “scarecrow book,” as Pincebourde called it — a work that caused a considerable stir and whose character Babou aptly summarized: “this prose, this criticism, this aesthetic, you have jovially attempted to give us in your literary abecedario.”
A fine copy of great rarity, on large paper and in a contemporary armorial binding.
