Comment fais-tu l’amour Cerise ?

This novel is, unusually for Fallet, a departure from his customary register: it follows the seductive campaign of a London Casanova toward Cerise, an idle young Frenchwoman adrift in the British capital. Beneath the story lies the characters’ deep loneliness, which they drown in alcohol, drugs or sheer indifference to the world around them. Even friendship, so dear to Fallet, rests here only on falseness, and despite the caresses and heartbreaks, each character ultimately remains alone in the world.

A very different vision, for an ostensibly similar story, from the one evoked in Charleston three years earlier.
