
J. M. G. Le Clézio

Né le 13 avril 1940, J. M. G. Le Clézio entre en littérature à vingt-trois ans avec Le Procès-verbal — roman écrit dans l'ombre de la guerre d'Algérie, prix Renaudot 1963 —, avant de rompre progressivement avec l'angoisse des villes pour suivre une trajectoire inverse : vers le désert, le Mexique, les Indiens Embera du Panama, les îles de l'océan Indien où sa famille bretonne s'était établie au XVIIIe siècle. Cette quête des civilisations englouties et des marges de l'humanité, l'Académie Nobel la salua en 2008 en distinguant « l'explorateur d'une humanité au-delà et en dessous de la civilisation régnante ». Son œuvre, traversée par la mémoire de son grand-père chercheur de trésor à Rodrigues et par les prophéties mayas qu'il traduisit lui-même, est peut-être moins une bibliothèque qu'un itinéraire — spirituel, géographique, et sans retour.
