First edition. One of 55 copies on vélin pur fil (no. 42), the only paper issued.
Cohen’s last novel had a rather particular genesis: when Albert Cohen submitted the imposing manuscript of Belle du seigneur in 1967, the Gallimard reading committee raised some reservations about its length. Cuts were requested. The following year, the novel was published, while Cohen took up the cut passages of his manuscript and set back to work. It was from this new material that Les Valeureux was born.
