Written in 1909 — four years after the Russo-Japanese War — La Bataille enjoyed considerable success, so much so that Guerlain borrowed the name of its principal heroine for its perfume “Mitsouko.” The battle in question is that of Tsushima, in which Admiral Togo’s Japanese squadron destroyed Admiral Rozhestvensky’s Russian fleet within a few hours.
