Zazie dans le métro was Queneau’s nineteenth book, and the one that finally brought him to a wider audience. This new fame for the co-founder of the Oulipo is perhaps explained by the utterly striking freedom of tone running through the novel. Has there ever before been a nymphet — however vulgar and provocative she might be — punctuating nearly every sentence with a resounding “mon cul”?
Louis Malle adapted it for the screen the very year of its publication.
Paper uniformly browned; minor tear at head.
