Une semaine de bonté ou les sept éléments capitaux

Paris, Éditions Jeanne Bucher, 1934.
5 vols. (225 x 280 mm). In wrappers, in publisher's illustrated chemise and slipcase.
First edition. This copy is one of 800 numbered copies on Navarre paper (no. 677). 182 original compositions by Max Ernst (173 collages and 9 drawings).

Of all the techniques Max Ernst employed, collage is arguably the one owing as much to Dada as to Surrealism. Rather than venture uncertain hypotheses about the meaning the author intended for these “elements” and their “examples” — in what is probably the most protean work of Surrealism — one should simply surrender to the mysterious images of Ernst’s third collage novel.
