Un garçon d’honneur is a play in four acts by Antoine Blondin and Paul Guimard, adapted from Oscar Wilde’s short story Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime. It was a successful adaptation, by the concurring judgment of both audiences and critics: “The adaptors achieve […] their difficult aim and provoke solid laughter once the mechanics of the botched murders are set in motion. The audience thoroughly enjoys itself. The incisive dialogue lands well. This is especially true of the scene in which the apprentice criminal seeks advice, in Central Europe, from an ‘artist in attentats.’ Evoked with the technical precision dear to both authors, the gentle madness of this proselyte of pyromania is delightfully comic” (Bertrand Poirot-Delpech, in Le Monde, 21 March 1960).
