Frans de Geetere illustrated a few books during the 1920s and early 1930s. Remy de Gourmont wrote of his etchings: “These drawings, of a rare erotic intuition, miraculously capture, without the injury of vain precision, the atmosphere of sensual mysticism in which I myself wished to bathe my ideas and my dreams.” This suite of free prints is his erotic masterpiece; he was himself its publisher, and one might add to “sold nowhere”… “on earth,” for de Geetere had set up his studio on the water, more precisely on a barge in Paris.

The twelve etchings are titled Fidélité, Coulisses, Assaut, Les deux sœurs, Paysage, The black door, Confidences, Introduction, Post coïtum, Idylle, Bachelières, En visite.

Dutel, II, 2449.
