Paul Bonet
Sous le soleil de Satan
[circa 1960].
Design on tracing paper (305 x 240 mm) in black and gold ink: a diamond pattern of dots at the center of the front cover, highlighted with stars, gilt-lettered title on the spine, the whole drawn over a light pencil outline. A few manuscript notes in the lower margin.
An unpublished design by Paul Bonet for one of Bernanos's masterworks.
It does not appear to have ever been executed; in his Carnets, Bonet cites only one Bernanos title, for two bindings, executed in 1964 and 1968: Le Journal d'un curé de campagne.

This design prefigures either an unrealized commission, or a trial decoration for NRF boards (the formats coincide) that was itself apparently never produced.
Stamp of the Paul Bonet sale of June 1, 1990, on the verso.
