First collected edition of these poems by Reverdy, previously published sporadically between 1919 and 1929. At his death in 1960, only Picasso and two other friends, Georges Braque and the publisher Tériade, were informed of his passing on 17 June.
In his honor, Picasso illustrated the poet’s last poem, Sable mouvant, published posthumously in 1966 under the aegis of Louis Broder.
