Max Ernst was living in Paris when the Éditions des Cahiers du Cercle d’Art published the brief texts of Sept microbes, illustrated by the author himself. He was working in an studio on the impasse Ronsin rented from the painter William Copley, across from Brancusi’s studio, at a time when Brancusi was close to death.
