Kafka’s early novella of this title is the oldest text for which a manuscript survives, dating from 1908. Though full of gaps, it already bears the mark of Kafka’s singular world. Max Brod paired it with the celebrated Letter to His Father, written by Kafka in 1919 but never sent, although it was genuinely intended for its recipient. A further series of aphorisms, the Discours sur la langue yiddish, and a sketch of Richard et Samuel complete the volume.
A fine copy.
The paper spine, preserved, shows some small losses.
