Nestor Burma contre C.Q.F.D. is Léo Malet’s second novel featuring the detective Nestor Burma, following 120, rue de la Gare. “There was this setting, that is, the curfew, the blackout, the passage of a few rare cars and sometimes distant sounds of anti-aircraft fire… That is, the ideal setting for a detective novel. We had no fog in France: we had the blackout! I told myself we had to use that. So I wrote 120, rue de la Gare, which was, so to speak, the first detective novel contemporary with the Occupation, with the Occupation as its backdrop” (Interview with Hubert Juin, Radio-France, February 1976). Twenty-seven novels and five short stories would follow, in which Burma would drag his unruly head through every arrondissement of the capital.

Roger Trubert’s brother, Jean, was Régent of the Collège de pataphysique and was also close to Raymond Queneau, who in 1943 dedicated his novel Odile to him.

A fine copy.
