1 vol. (120 x 200 mm) of 1, [1] f., XVI-262 p. and 1 f. Long-grained purple morocco, spine ribbed and decorated, covers in the Du Seuil style, decorated with blind rolls, gilt fillets and fleurons and a large gilt medallion at center, inner rolls, gilt edges (binding signed Dauphin).
A very fine typographic edition, illustrated with four steel-engraved plates after Alexandre Desenne, including an engraved title page, and numerous wood-engraved ornaments by Thompson. It opens with a preface by Charles Nodier and the publisher's notice to the tenth and eleventh editions.
Through its elegiac lyricism, Méditations poétiques secured Lamartine’s place in literary history as one of the founders of Romanticism in France, alongside Hugo and Vigny. This luxurious, finely bound edition reflects the wide diffusion and prestige of the text and the renown of its author.
