Lewis Carroll was a mathematics teacher and a passionate logician. This edition brings together, for the first time in French, the mathematical and philosophical writings of the author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: translated from The Game of Logic (1887) and Symbolic Logic (1896).

The collection is illustrated with 68 black-and-white illustrations by Max Ernst, some on double pages, ranging from geometric and abstract to figurative and fanciful. Ernst returned repeatedly to the figure of Alice as a motif and source of inspiration, and later reworked some of the illustrations from Logique sans peine for his series of lithographs Wunderhorn, published in 1970.

A suite of the out-of-text illustrations from Logique sans peine was published the following year, in a separate printing of 25 copies.
