Like L’Œuvre du divin Arétin and L’Œuvre du Marquis de Sade, which Apollinaire had already published with the same publisher, this anthology belongs to the “Les Maîtres de l’Amour” series and follows the previous volume devoted to Italian poets. Here Apollinaire turns to the three principal storytellers of the great century: Giovanni Battista Casti, Giorgio Baffo and Domenico Batacchi.
