First edition. Unique printing of 1,200 numbered copies (no. 739).

La Guêpe had already been published the previous year, in a very small printing.

The friendship between the two poets developed after the war, strengthened by their shared involvement in the Resistance. They had mutual friends, chiefly Camus and Braque.

Their friendship reached a high point in 1949, when Char asked Braque to illustrate Ponge’s Cinq Sapates, one of his finest books. The work was published in 1950 and dedicated to René Char.
