Les Têtes de Stéphanie

Paris, Gallimard, (July 3) 1974.
1 vol. (150 x 220 mm) of 289 p. and [1] f. In wrappers, with illustrated cover.
July reprinting under a new dust jacket, which acknowledges Gary's identity as the author.

Press copy, stamped as such.

Once the secret was revealed, the July reprinting of the book featured a new cover: on the front, Gary’s face appears on a fictitious postage stamp; on the back, the following text: “One would be wrong to think that I chose a pseudonym for Les Têtes de Stéphanie because it is what is sometimes grudgingly called ‘a spy novel’. I did it because I sometimes feel the need to change my identity, to separate myself from myself, for the space of a book. (…) I am revealing my true identity today because, in any case, certain critics have already uncovered the secret of this ‘reincarnation’…”

Rare as a review copy.
