Les Linottes

Paris, Ernest Flammarion, [1912].
1 vol. (120 x 185 mm) of 302 p. and 1 f. In wrappers.
First edition. Illustrations by Ch. Roussel.

One of 50 copies on Japanese paper, numbered by the publisher (no. 67), after 20 on China paper.

A tart yet tender Montmartre novel, Les Linottes captures the petty bohemian world and its inconsistencies (Robert Cozal, Marthe Hamiet…) with the instant-snapshot art so dear to Courteline. The texts first appeared serialized before being collected by Flammarion in 1912, and were later adapted for the musical stage in the 1920s.
