This volume brings together the three speeches delivered on 24 November 1967 at the Maison de l’Amérique latine, on the occasion of the ceremony presenting the academician’s sword to Maurice Druon, elected to the seat of Georges Duhamel in June of that year. Joseph Kessel, his uncle in both blood and letters, was one of the speakers, alongside Maurice Schumann, future minister and Companion of the Liberation. Druon responded to them, paying tribute to the bonds of family and of shared commitment.
The present copy, from his library, is enriched with an autograph card addressed to him by Maurice Druon, as well as to the “women of Les Vernelles,” Suzanne and Sylvie Genevoix, mother and daughter.
