Le Taureau, le veau, le maquereau…
Paris, Grande impr. de Montrouge, M. Delesville, [1910].
1 vol. (190 x 265 mm) in one gathering of 16 leaves including the cover, with a drawn title, the publisher's blindstamp and the printer's address.
First edition. Small printing, very probably published at the author's expense.
Dedicated to Laurent Tailhade, the text is accompanied by nine drawings, each providing a caricatural portrait of one animal, satirizing a contemporary figure — including his father Lucien Guitry, depicted as the “mackerel”!
Even before turning to playwriting, Sacha Guitry produced several hundred caricatures, published throughout his life in newspapers. Some were later gathered into albums. The first appeared as early as 1903, Des connus et des inconnus; the present work is the second, described in the Bibliographie française as an Album zoologique.
A large-paper issue exists, printed on Johannot Montgolfier of Annonay laid paper, “in a few copies for the author and his intimates” (Talvart et Place).
