A handsome edition illustrated by Baudoin, who, like Le Clézio, was born in Nice — Le Clézio in 1940, Baudoin in 1942 — for Le Clézio’s first book, awarded the Prix Renaudot in 1963. Forty-five years later, the Nobel Academy would award him the Nobel Prize in Literature, celebrating “the author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization.”
