This prose poem, written for the Mesdemoiselles de Bachelier, friends of the Baronne de Bouglon (his “Ange blanc,” whom he met in 1851 and for whom he wrote Le Chevalier Des Touches), was judged somewhat too Rabelaisian and was not included in the edition of Rythmes oubliés published by Lemerre in 1897, which gathered other scattered pieces, including Laocoon.
