The war was over, the Resistance already belonged to history, and Aragon now occupied a considerable position in French literary and political life. The volume brings together several groups of poems and belongs to this period when, following the great wartime collections, Aragon continued to develop a poetry at once lyrical, amorous and politically engaged, in the line of Le Crève-cœur, published in 1941.

From the library of René Rouzaud (bookplate). A poet and songwriter, Rouzaud belonged to the world of post-war French song. His name remains associated in particular with Édith Piaf, for whom he wrote several songs, including La Goualante de pauvre Jean, set to music by Marguerite Monnot.
