« Le Fils »
Jean Jacquelin’s work for Presses de la Cité was the fruit of a close collaboration with Georges Simenon, to whom he submitted his original artwork for approval; the author would give (or withhold) his agreement, sometimes suggesting a direction. Several of the designs are annotated by Simenon on the verso.
For Le Fils, three designs were initially submitted to Simenon. The final illustration was close to the last of the three, to which Jacquelin added brighter colors that were later reused. This dust jacket was the first in a series of 26 that followed, up to 1962, for first editions or reprints of previously published titles. The artist designed the jackets until 1962, twenty-seven titles in all:
