A first illustrated edition, in folio format, had appeared in 1946 from Arnold-Bordas, with 25 original drawings and a color frontispiece by Marc Chagall.
A new, smaller edition was issued four years later, on the occasion of the English translation of the text, dedicated to Chagall. This copy is complete with the printed glassine and the color plate by Marc Chagall, reproduced by Daniel Jacomet. Being a loose plate, it is often missing.
