Eight renowned authors contributed thirteen texts — Camus’s opens the volume — forming a mosaic of perspectives on the film produced by Walt Disney. The film proved a great success: Désert vivant (The Living Desert) remained on screen in Lausanne from late September to mid-November 1954, after several extensions.
Entered in competition at the 7th International Film Festival, it won the prize for photography, having already received the Academy Award for Best Documentary in Hollywood the previous year. It was not released in France until December 17, 1954.
Neither of these two texts was ever reprinted among Camus’s collected works.
