Jean Dutourd’s first essay, published at the age of twenty-six, Le Complexe de César won the Prix Stendhal in October 1946, awarded by a jury that included Alexandre Arnoux, Jean Cocteau, Julien Green, Gabriel Marcel and Jean Schlumberger.
A former Resistance member, Dutourd offers here a philosophical and moral reflection that already anticipates the taste for satire and the observation of human behavior that would characterize his later work.
A fine copy, inscribed to the Parisian bookseller Max-Philippe Delatte, established on rue de la Pompe, in the 16th arrondissement.
