A poster-manifesto published in 1966 against the installation of nuclear missiles on the Plateau d’Albion, in the Haute-Provence landscape so deeply connected with Char’s life and wartime Resistance.
The text, dated February 1966, was recomposed as a poster with a drawing by Picasso dated February 19. The result brings together poet and painter in a shared act of protest against the nuclearization of Provence.
This copy is especially attractive as Louis Barnier’s own. Char had a long relationship with the Imprimerie Union, which printed several of his major works. The inscription therefore places the poster at the heart of its making: a political statement, but also a product of Char’s enduring typographical loyalty.
