A rare publication commissioned by the publisher Magnier, a relative of Lavoisier, a monument to whom had just been partly funded by the Russian high nobility. In gratitude, Magnier published this verse tribute for the coronation of Nicholas II, held on 26 May 1896.
Manuscript justification on the first blank leaf: “[1] for the Emperor of Russia, [2] for the President of the Republic, [3] for Monsieur Magnier [the publisher], no. 4 for M. Romagnol [the illustrator], [5] for M. Gérard and [6] M. Hanotaux [Minister of Foreign Affairs].”
