Each year is illustrated with a title, six stencil-colored plates outside the text, and black-and-white ornaments by Barbier.
The 1917 volume has a plain, undecorated slipcase, and the 1918 volume includes an additional frontispiece.
The first three years were printed and bound by Maison Maquet (Paris); the last two, respectively, by Schmied and Coulouma.

In his “Publisher’s Note” to the final almanac (1921), Meynial explained that he had deliberately ended the series because of the counterfeit editions it had attracted.
The series was launched by the bookseller Jules Meynial (successor to Émile Jean-Fontaine, at 30 boulevard Haussmann) in the middle of 1917. For the occasion, he engaged the master of Art Deco design Georges Barbier, a decorative painter who specialized in fashion illustration. In addition to the calendar and note pages traditionally included in almanacs, Meynial inserted texts by René Boylesve, Gérard d’Houville, Albert Flament, Francis de Miomandre, Anna de Noailles, Henri de Régnier, and the artist himself, Georges Barbier, among others.
