La Grande Crevasse is Roger Frison-Roche’s sixth book, published, like its predecessors, by the Grenoble publisher Arthaud. It is the second installment of a trilogy that begins with Premier de cordée and concludes with Retour à la montagne.
In 1930, Frison-Roche became the first guide of the Compagnie des guides de Chamonix not to be a native of Chamonix — he came from the Beaufortain — and he was also top of the first graduating class of certified instructors of the FFS, in 1934.
A classic of mountaineering fiction, rare with an inscription.
