Pagnol’s masterful novelistic work, his “childhood journal,” inscribed here to Maurice Druon. Pagnol preceded Druon at the Académie française, having been elected at only forty-seven, on 4 April 1946. His induction, on 27 March 1947, with a reception speech by Jérôme Tharaud, was filmed — a first in the history of the Académie française. Druon would join him twenty years later, in December 1966.
