La Crevette dans tous ses états

Paris, Vrille, (July 1) 1948.
1 vol. (195 x 250 mm) of 51 p., [3] and 2 f. In sheets, in a chemise and slipcase.
First edition. Illustrated with 10 original engravings by Gérard Vulliamy.

One of 30 hors commerce copies on vélin du Marais, justified H.C. 17/30 by Francis Ponge.

Signed presentation inscription: “pour René Char, le grand poète, l'ami très cher. Son Francis P.”

Ponge’s poem belongs to the line of Le Parti pris des choses, published in 1942: the poet sought to set this poem apart from traditional poetry by writing a prose poem devoted to an uncommon subject — the shrimp — treated with a quasi-scientific descriptive method. This is the very ambition of the “parti pris des choses”: to speak of a thing never before placed at the forefront of poetry.

A charming connection between the two poets.
