In 1995, La Haine established Mathieu Kassovitz as a major figure in French cinema.
During filming, Kassovitz had asked Gilles Favier, then a young photographer, to come to Chanteloup-les-Vignes, where most of the film was to be shot, to document the setting and its inhabitants. Favier decided to stay on and, over the eight weeks of filming, freely photographed both what happened in front of the camera and around it. Twenty-five years later, at Kassovitz’s request, Favier returned to his archives and unearthed 220 rolls of film. A selection of prints forms the basis of this edition, which accompanies the script with these previously unpublished images.
