Prix Goncourt 2000. Published after nearly twenty years of editorial silence, Ingrid Caven marked a genuine return to favor for the cult author of Rose Poussière (1972). The text, poised between novel, portrait and collage, centers on the German singer and actress Ingrid Caven, muse of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Schuhl’s companion and a magnetic figure of postwar artistic Europe. The writing is fragmentary, blending memories, impressions, aphorisms and reminiscences in a montage aesthetic evoking both Fassbinder’s cinema and cabaret music.

The prize was awarded to Schuhl in the second round, with only 4 votes (against, notably, Amélie Nothomb), carried by the support of the president, François Nourissier.

A rare deluxe issue, printed after the prize was awarded, in February 2001.
