A fine and important tribute issue, published two months after Camus’s death: it gathers all that the friendship and gratitude of his peers could then express. Texts by Brice Parain, William Faulkner, Jean Grenier, Emmanuel Roblès, Jean-Claude Brisville, Gabriel Audisio, Jean-Louis Barrault, and others. Only René Char, still too affected by the loss of his “brother in this world,” refrained from contributing. Char’s first words on Camus would not come until five years later, in Naissance et jour levant d’une amitié.
A fine copy.
