Grandeur nature. Une page d’histoire.
In La France libre, London, vol. VIII, no. 47, September 15, 1944, and vol. XI, no. 61, November 15, 1945.
2 vols. (185 x 245 mm), [6], 308-381 pp. and [7] leaves; [4], 83 pp. and [2] leaves. In wrappers.
First versions of two early texts by Gary, later published in the only collection of short stories he ever issued: Gloire à nos illustres pionniers. The first appeared under the title “Noblesse et grandeur,” the second retained its original title.
These are two accounts of “inner resistance,” one set in Romania, the other in Czechoslovakia. They follow Gary’s first publication in this review, “Le Continent englouti,” which was later incorporated into Forest of Anger, his first book, published between the appearance of these two stories.
These are the only two other texts by Romain Gary printed in La France libre.
