Far removed from the animal narratives with which his name is often associated, Genevoix here delivers a dark novel of human passions. Although the landscape of the Val de Loire provides the backdrop, the novel centers on the escalation of a family and romantic drama.
The author later combined Gai-l’Amour with L’Assassin, another 1932 novel, under the significant title Deux fauves.
A precious copy from the author’s own library, bound for his collection and bearing his bookplate “aux Vernelles.”
