A British mathematician, logician and philosopher, Bertrand Russell (1872–1970) is one of the great figures of twentieth-century thought: awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950, this unconventional aristocrat also carried his convictions into public debate — his pacifism led to his imprisonment during the First World War, and he devoted his last years to the struggle against nuclear weapons.
First published in English in 1928, Sceptical Essays makes doubt a discipline of the mind and an instrument of freedom.
An important text, rare on deluxe paper.
