Conceived in the shock of the first lockdown, this brief, polyphonic book opens with ordinary scenes observed in a public square — crossed glances, anonymous figures — before the world’s standstill sends each character back into their inner room, the situation bringing to light an “extraordinary quality of the ordinary.” The original project (a son visiting his elderly mother) was redirected by the health crisis, capturing a collective experience that avoids the effect of a chronicle in favor of the tone of a contemporary fable and an attentiveness to small, ordinary lives.
