
Oscar Wilde

Né à Dublin le 16 octobre 1854, Oscar Wilde s'impose à Londres dans les années 1880 comme l'un des esprits les plus brillants de son époque — essayiste, conteur, romancier et dramaturge, auteur du Portrait de Dorian Gray et des grandes comédies de mœurs qui font la gloire du West End. Condamné en 1895 à deux ans de travaux forcés pour « grossière indécence », il sort de prison brisé et ne produit plus qu'une dernière œuvre, La Ballade de la geôle de Reading, avant de mourir à Paris le 30 novembre 1900.
