Presentation copy inscribed by Seignolle to Maurice Genevoix: “En respectueux hommage, à Monsieur M. Genevoix, ce petit livre sur les mœurs des compatriotes de Raboliot, Claude Seignolle, 2 octobre 1945.”

Genevoix underlined and annotated the text in several places.

Exactly twenty years after Maurice Genevoix won the Prix Goncourt for Raboliot, a twenty-eight-year-old ethnographer sent him the results of his own observations on the inhabitants of that same Sologne region. Claude Seignolle is today best known as one of the great French writers of popular fantastic literature: sorcerers, wolf-charmers, curses, ghosts and rural beliefs populate his work. Passionate from a young age about archaeology and folklore, Seignolle took a keen interest in oral traditions, beliefs and rural superstitions, and the Musée de Sologne, in Romorantin-Lanthenay, today holds an important collection of Claude Seignolle material, comprising his books and archives.

From the library of Maurice Genevoix.
