Rejected by some seventy American publishers, Lord of the Barnyard was first translated and published in France by Gallimard, with the support of Patrick Modiano’s daughter, before appearing in English from Picador.
It would not appear in the United States until a year later, published by Grove Press. Its author, the young Tristan Egolf, had written his first book and his masterpiece; two further titles followed, the last posthumously.
More recently, Adrien Bosc retraced the author’s life and work in a journalistic investigation, L’Invention de Tristan.
