Les Trois Crimes de mes amis

Les Trois Crimes de mes amis was written in January 1937, first serialized in Confessions from 25 February to 29 April 1937, then published in first edition by Gallimard in April 1938.

Simenon returns to acquaintances of his youth and to three figures from the Liège underworld who turned to crime: Hyacinthe Dans, Ferdinand Deblauwe and the Fakir. Simenon did not regard this book as an ordinary detective novel, but as an autobiographical account, almost a retrospective piece of reportage, about men he had known before they became murderers. The question running through the book is simple: how could these men, known in his youth, have turned to crime?
