Levinas’s philosophy centers on the ethical question of the Other, and on freedom in action. As the first to introduce Husserl’s and Heidegger’s thought in France, Levinas explores his major themes in Humanisme de l’autre homme, published ten years after his doctoral thesis Totalité et Infini. He would begin teaching at the Sorbonne in 1973.
