Paris, Plon, (November 10) 1932.
1 vol. (165 x 240 mm) of 400 p., [2] and 1 f. In wrappers.
First edition.

One of 30 copies on Japanese paper (no. 17).

Inscribed and signed [to his publisher]: “À Maurice Bourdel. Que béni soit ce livre qui m’a fait le connaître et l’aimer davantage. Sacha Guitry.”

In the early 1930s, Guitry was at the height of his fame: a celebrated playwright, actor-director, columnist and soon-to-be filmmaker. The publication of a volume of “selected extracts” by Plon formed part of a strategy to consolidate the “Guitry list” in bookshops, offering, in a single volume, an anthological entry point into a body of work widely scattered across theater, columns and memoirs.

Critical notices of 1932 explicitly presented it as “an anthology for admirers of Guitry.”

A fine copy from the deluxe issue, inscribed to Maurice Bourdel, managing director of the Plon publishing house.
