This edition was withdrawn from sale before it was even distributed, at the express request of the author: apart from the moiré cover, which he disliked (hence the “pastry-shop” presentation), an unfortunate acute accent had been added to the spine, producing a “Siménon” that greatly displeased him.
Only a few copies were kept by the writer and sent out as review copies or gifts.
A new printing, corrected for the slipcase — without the accent and on gray paper — was produced the following year, within the same original print run of 1,500 copies.
